Creating an Education List

Go to your Education Lists module (by clicking on the  Education Data item in the main nav and then select the Lists item in the dropdown. You'll then be fired over to the Education Lists page.

If you don't have any Education Lists yet you'll see a Get Started button. If you do you'll see a list of your lists.

Click the Create a List button and you'll be fired across to the Education List Builder Wizard.

Step 1 – Setup

Firstly click on the relevant Get Started button.

Then give your List a Name.

Now select your List Type.

Next, specify if you want the list to be a list of schools, or a list of teachers by using the dropdown.

Choosing a Schools List

If you're creating a Schools list Campus will want to know whether you intend to include schools in your list where you already have a Contact. For instance, let's say you wanted to send some outreach marketing to London schools with the intention of driving traffic to a lead generation form on your website in order to engage with some of the teachers there and convert them into Contacts. You may not want to send that particular piece of marketing to schools where you already have a contact. If that's the case just tick the Exclude schools where you have a contact checkbox.

Choosing a Teachers List

Teacher Postal and Data Lists

Begin by selecting the relevant List Type ( Postal or Data) and the Recipient Type (Teachers)

Next decide which teacher type(s) you want to include in your list. You can do this by using the Teacher Types dropdown.

With postal and data lists you are able to select more than one teacher in one list.

N.B. The number of teacher types you are able to include in a list is governed by the Campus plan you are on.

Now you need to tell Campus whether you want to include any schools that don't have a named teacher(s) that you've selected.

Finally tell Campus whether you want to include a teacher in your list if they are already one of your current Contacts.

Teacher Email Lists
N.B. You are only able to create Teacher Email Lists if you have Teacher Email Credits as part of your plan.

Begin by selecting the relevant List Type ( Email) and the Recipient Type (Teachers)

Next decide which teacher type you want to include in your list. You can do this by using the Teacher Types dropdown.

With email lists you are only able to select one teacher type in one list.

Now you need to tell Campus whether you want to include any teachers that don't have an email address in your list. If you do Campus will use their school email address instead.

Next decide if you want to include schools in your list who don't have your teacher type. If you do Campus will use their school email address instead.

Finally tell Campus whether you want to include a teacher in your list if they are already one of your current Contacts.

Step 2 – Select Your School Types

You'll now be faced with the School Types selector. This is super-easy to use.

The list of school types are in what is called a checkbox accordion list – this really just means you can open it out like an accordion to see sub-types of schools and further refine your search. You can open the accordion out by clicking on the '+' and '-' buttons on the right hand side. You'll also notice that as you select the types of schools you want they will appear in the criteria box on the right hand side – this is to help you keep track of what you have chosen.

Top Tip 1: If you want to instantly see all the school types on offer to you just click the Expand All button above the checkbox accordion list. To collapse the checkbox accordion list back down just click the Collapse All button.

Top Tip 2: We've included five very common selections at the top so you can just click on one of these to save you having to go searching through the accordion for the school types you require.

Once you've made your selections click the Next > button in the wizard's footer.

Step 3 – Choose Your Location(s)

You can search for schools using one of the three different location selectors: by County, by Local Authority, or by Postcode Area.

If you choose to search by County or Local Authority you will be faced with a familiar looking checkbox accordion that lists the different Counties/Local Authorities in different regions of the UK. Simply select the areas you want by ticking the relevant checkboxes.

If you decide to search by Postcode Area you'll see this:

Simply enter the postcode prefixes (the first part of a postcode – SW1, SW2, SW17 etc.) and separate each with a comma.

Once you've selected your areas click the Next button in the wizard's footer.

Step 4 – Select Any Extras (optional step)

In this step you can really drill down your search criteria. If you don't want to include any super-specific criteria in your list – no problem; you should leave all of these fields blank and click on the Next button in the wizard's footer.

Across the top you have eight tabs that allow you to search by really specific things.

  • Specialisms
The specialism of the school. E.g. Arts, Science, Technology.
  • Religious Denominations
The religious denomination of the school. E.g. Christian, Hindu, Roman Catholic.
  • Ages and Numbers
The age and numbers of pupils at the school. E.g. Age Range From/To, Number of students on roll.
  • Funding Status
Under what premise does the school assume it's funding. E.g. Academy, Foundation, Free, Voluntary Controlled.
  • Pupils
The demographic of the pupils at the school. E.g. % of Pupils on Free School Meals, % of Pupils with English as a Foreign Language.
  • Financials
How much money the school has coming in and what they spend their money on. E.g. Self-Generated Income, Amount spent on Teaching Staff per Pupil.
  • Ofsted
The Ofsted results of the school. E.g. Overall Effectiveness, Quality of Teaching, Last Inspection Date.
  • Exams
The Exam Results of the students at the school. E.g. % of Pupils Achieving English KS2 at Level 5 or Above, Key Stage 5 Average Points Score.
  • Workforce
The number of staff at the school. E.g. Number of Teachers, Number of Support Staff.
N.B. All School Extras are only updated in Campus every 12 months.

Once you've selected any School Extras you'll want to click on the Next button in the wizard's

Step 5 – Fallbacks

You only need to complete this step if you are creating an email list (Campus will bypass this step if you are not). Here you can tweak the Education Data Default Fallbacks from over in the Education Settings Module. You can find out more about Education Data Fallbacks here.

Once that's sorted click on the Finish button in the wizard's footer and you're done. You'll see the List Build Complete page which gives you the counts for your list and the option to either go and view your list, edit your list, or send an email to that list.

3. Managing Your Education Marketing Lists

Viewing Your Lists

Head on over to the Education List page (Education Data -> Education Lists) and you'll see a list of your lists. Here you can do a few things:

  1. Go and view each list by clicking on the list name.
  2. Refresh the list count by clicking on the refresh button against each list. Remember, the Education Data in Campus is being constantly updated by Sprint Education so to get an instant update on the counts you need to refresh them.
  3. Go and edit the list by clicking on the Edit button and you can then tweak your list's parameters.
  4. Delete a list by clicking on the trash can button. Note – you are only deleting the list – NOT the schools and teachers themselves.
Removing Schools/Teachers from a List

Go and view the list; find the item you want to remove and click on the trash can button for that school/teacher. Note, you'll just be removing the school/teacher from your list – you won't be deleting it from Campus.

Sending an Email to Your Lists

Every Education Email Marketing List you build is available immediately for you over in the Email Marketing Module as a list that you can send to.

Exporting Your List

You are also able to export your Education Marketing Lists. Head on over to the List Page and click on the Name of the list you want to export. This will open that list for you and then you can simply click on the Export button at the top of the page. Before exporting you will need to select what fields you want to include in your list. Fields are the actual pieces of data that make up your list like Establishment Name, Address, Specialism etc. When you've selected your fields, click the blue 'Export Now' button.

You can then use the exported CSV file for a postal campaign mail merge.

Note: The number of teachers you can export is governed by the Campus package you have purchased.
